Treatment of palm trees is through an unobtrusive micro-injection with minimal disruption or interference to trees and palms and the environment. The tree receives 100% of the application - with no waste or environmental loss. A typical treatment with ARETOR involves 42ml per tree (Aretor 4%) and 21 ml per tree (Aretor 9.5%) of product injected through 4 points around the stem base into the upward sap flow, to move and target pests feeding in the palm stem and crown. The unobtrusive treatment can take a trained operator less than 5 minutes per tree.

Micro-injection process

All operators are fully trained to use the exclusive micro-injection process. The patented Syngenta TreeCare micro-injection process involves four 8mm holes drilled into the base of the palm stem at a 20-degree angle. Following micro-injection into the palm trunk the product is moved up the stem to target the pest site. It is retained in the tree, with no movement of insecticide down to the roots. Any product in leaves that fall is quickly broken down by micro-organisms. There is no risk to operators or animals from contact with trees or vegetation following treatment.

Application and guidance

The treatment is inserted directly into the tree trunk by micro injection. The insecticide used, ARETOR, is derived from the naturally occurring avermectin insecticide; revised, refined and synthesized by Syngenta into a highly effective targeted insect pest control option.

Contamination

ARETOR is an insecticide for use as tree micro-injection (TMI) in palm trees for the control of mainly red palm weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus) which is a dangerous deadly pest in date palm, coconut palm and ornamental palms. For use only as tree micro-injection (TMI) product. ARETOR also controls emerald ash borer and other arthropod pests on broad leaf (e.g. leaf miner on horse chestnut) and coniferous trees, and nematodes in pine trees. Do not use as a spray or soil treatment. ARETOR® should be applied using specialized Syngenta tree micro injection equipment. Do not use against pests resistant to avermectins/milbemycins (IRAQ group 6: Chloride channel activators).
